HMRC Gift Aid Claim for Charities

Gift Aid allows registered charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) to boost donations by reclaiming basic rate tax from HMRC. For every £1 donated, charities can claim an extra 25p at no cost to donors, enhancing fundraising and supporting sustainability. At My Charity Management (MYCM), we assist charities with compliant Gift Aid claims to maximise this revenue source while meeting HMRC requirements.

Not all gifts qualify for Gift Aid. They must adhere to HMRC's rules. In the UK, eligible gifts can claim up to basic tax rates from qualifying taxpayers in the donation year.

Gift Aid Compliance

Donor meeting tax status qualifications must be met. The claimable Gift Aid amount cannot exceed the tax paid by the donor, and compliance with bookkeeping, KYC, and Anti-Money Laundering is required. The claimable amount varies by country, with a typical recovery rate of 20% in the UK.

To claim Gift Aid, the organisation must be a recognised charity or CASC. Donors need to provide a declaration. Donations must come from individuals who have paid equivalent Income Tax. Gift Aid cannot be claimed on donations from companies or those with benefits exceeding a limit.
